A wooden pier extends out into Lake Trasimeno, with platforms on either side and a rope railing. In the distance, sailboats are sailing, and mountains are visible on the horizon under a pale sky.

The reason we bought the house here in 1982 was because of Lake Trasimeno.

8 miles across, but shallow enough for the water to reach a lovely temperature in the summer.

Many a day has been started with a coffee in Cafe Pescatore, and indeed, many an afternoon too!

Teenagers tend to prefer the bars at the beach on the other side of town, where there's volleyball, and other sports available.

There are three islands on the lake, two of which are reachable by ferry. Isola Maggiore is the longer trip, and the ferry departs from Castiglione.

But our favourite is Isola Polvese (below), it's a nice spot for a picnic and swim.
