Eating Out

To be honest you'll struggle to find anywhere that isn't good to eat in and around Castiglione, but here are some we can definitely recommend.

La Cantina

A Castiglione institution!

The terrace offers great views but will need booking in high season. The high vaulted interior is very cosy in the cooler months.

Their menu caters for all, but I'd recommend some of the local delicacies that change with the seasons.

La Terrazza

A new and very good seafood and fish restaurant.

Which is something of a novelty in an area that specialises in lake fish.

A bit more expensive than the others on this list, but worth it.

La Pigra Tinca

Opened by the same co-op as La Cantina but with a very different feel.

The food also has a different spin on the usual Italian dishes.

Attracts a slightly smarter crowd.

Hostaria La Tufa

Situated in the village of Ossaia 15 minutes north of Castagni, with a great view of Cortona from the terrace.

Their Sporta di Serafina is my absolute favourite pizza.

Again like La Cantina, the interior with it's log fire is lovely in the winter,

C'era una volta

Not beautiful, definitely not smart, but fantastic value, and excellent food.

The grigliata di maiale (grilled pork selection) is my favourite, but their massive pizzas are great too.

Very popular with the locals.
